Logo drafts

A friend told me to remove the Flashmo template for my website and my intention is to make one a whole new site.  I’m just not satisfied with my level of creation working with Flash at the moment.  I want to have it mostly HTML and CSS and perhaps implement a bit of Flash.

Also, just learning the ins and out of Photoshop and Illustrator as both can be used to create website layouts.

Here are a couple of logos I have drafted in Illustrator.

This is a flat design I pieced together.  It is a font I was able to connect together to get the end result I was looking for.  The RJC on the left has straight edges and the one on the right has rounded edges.  Personally, I think the rounded edges is more elegant.  This is what I started off with, lettering and combining it together to have it flow and connect.  I added a quick drop shadow to make it look like it is lifted from the white background.

After toggling around, I decided to add a bit of 3D flair to it.  Below is my end result for a quarter bird’s eyeview in 3D where it is raised off the background.  I also fit the word “design” along the “R”.

What do you think?  I have not really messed with the colors yet but that will all depend on the sites layout and color combination. How do you create website layouts and logos?
