Last week when Google’s site went down, I felt all alone. My morning routine was ruined because I couldn’t check my email, access my RSS reader, look for news and have my questions answered. The sad reality dawned on me is how reliant I have become on Google. My life is simply revolved around it. The mere fact I couldn’t just launch a browser and fire up a search on Google felt powerless. Sorry Yahoo, Microsoft Live, etc. Google is simply irreplaceable at the moment.
Although Google cannot interact with you it feels almost animated. You type in something to search and an answer spits out from it based on relevancy. Its like my mentor, teacher and best friend. Through the search results, I see it as its guidance to where I can seek more help. In the end, I always... Continue Reading...

Ever since graduating from an undergrad program at an Universtiy, all my jobs have been at-will employment. And I’ve experienced first hand what it felt like to be laid off as well, once so far. As the recession continues to loom over our heads, I am feeling a bit uneasy day by day. And I have to say, at-will employment sucks arse! The way it is defined just does not protect the employee and there is no guarantee.
My industry at the moment, is in hospitality and tourism. I do not work for a hotel per se but am in that environment and the hand that feeds is suffering tremendously. My company offers technology solutions, not audio-visual, for events held in the conference spaces at hotels. When the hotel’s own sales staff struggle to book enough meetings, my revenue... The title sums up my resume and career outlook at the moment and that is my main concern. In order to be successful, you need a certain skill you excel at as opposed to being mediocre at many skills. I am an Account Manager managing a portfolio of over 20 properties in the Southern California region, namely, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties. However, I do much more than act as an Account Manager and when necessary, I put on a different hat and hop into a different role when needed. The exception to this is access, my company does not provide enough access for personal growth to become adept at one single skill.
I have two sets of clients, one is the hotels under contract with my company and the other set is the clients that use the conference spaces... Continue Reading...

In my company, my role/position/title is of Account Manager, however, I am just what you call a glorified Customer Service Representative handling almost all operaitonal aspects for my company in a particular geographic region. The job used to excite me because I was able to travel and not be in an office setting all day long. Meeting new people, helping them resolve their issues and helping with their customers used to be challenging and made me feel rewarding. Now, it is just annoying as I answer and send emails consistently all day (no thanks to the corporate Blackberry) or am tied to my phone all day talking, explaining and teaching annopying, ignorant clients what has already been agreed with them. Another thing is the lack of commaderie found in an office. In my area, there... Continue Reading...

I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day because I feel it is overated and every day can be treated as something special. However, I still needed to show my appreciation to my lovely wife by spending quality time with her. I had wanted to go have dinner at Ruth’s Chris because I felt I wanted to treat both of us to a nice steak and lobster dinner. Alas, since I did not plan ahead to make reservations, it was fully booked. No presents were bought either. Given a particular budget, I became inspired to do a Valentine’s Day activity instead. In the end, I decided we can spend a day doing something we were both unfamiliar with and something we can do together. Best of all, it will help along decorating our place making it feel more vibrant with life and color.
We... Continue Reading...
