I’ve been spending more time in Photoshop recently. Starting first with sketching on my brand new Wacom bamboo tablet.
I recently switched from using all Adobe Creative Suite CS2 products to CS3 so I am still getting familiar with it.
Yes, I am far, far behind since CS4 is already out but I probably will never need those new features, yet. I was able to get some sketches down but I needed to learn some techniques for digital painting.
As usual, Google is my best friend and I find everything by scouring the internet for tutorials, walkthroughs, and videos for tips. I find some great how-to videos (not actual tutorials) of some artists. They are all literally digital tablet gods at painting with Adobe Photoshop. **Sidenote: Is it even more difficult to paint in MS Paint? Not only is it amazing to watch the videos it also motivates me to practice more and get to a certain respectable level.
Looking through the web for photorealism painting with Photoshop, I find this tutorial from Layers Magazine. I always end up browsing their magazines at the local Barnes and Noble or Borders (bankrupt and no longer existing) bookstores and am debating about actually subscribing.
They have great tips, tricks and tutorials. If you give me a donation subscription, that’ll be great too!
Here are a couple other great tutorials that offer techniques to achieve that photorealism in digital painting:
I have found some great videos on photorealistic illustrations in Photoshop:

Couldn’t have written it better myself.
I am currently studying multimedia design at a small college in Sydney and am constantly on the pursuit for new concepts and fresh perspectives on this topic. I thank you for putting up your “Great Photoshop tutorial for photorealistic painting | DesignRJC” page! it delivered some really first class information.
