Watch this!
Now, that I got your interest, let me share with you one of the best fighting movies to come out in a long time. The martial arts sequences are on par with Once Upon A Time in China or Hero. The movie is Ip Man, the man responsible for how wide spread Wing Chun is internationally He is also teacher to the greatest martial artist in the 20th century, Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun from Ip Man and took many of the lessons, forms and incoprated into his own Jeet Kune Do. It is without a doubt, Ip Man is one badass martial artist.
The story is set in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China in the 1930′s right before the Japanese take over and 1940′s during Japanese takeover. It shows the controversies during Japanese rule and the hardships endured by the Chinese. Playing Ip Man is the highly recognized Donnie Yen whom has been in the film industry as both actor and martial arts choreographer. The story tries to develop the character of Ip Man, however, he’s already a Wing Chun master in this movie. There’s definitely room for more development for a prequel (how he learned Wing Chun and became a master) and sequel (events leading to teaching Bruce Lee all the way to his death). The fight scenes were great and story can be touching as well. Overall, I would say this is a must see movie if your a fan of HK films or martial arts films in general. This movie will not disappoint.
