It was the showdown we were anticipating for Christmas Day, a rematch of last year’s finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. Coming in, Boston had won 19 games and the outcome, Lakers ended that streak with a win down the stretch led by Pau Gasol. Fast forward to earlier this week, Lakers faced Celtics in Boston. Boston is riding a high again winning their last 12 games. Outcome? Lakers again snapped their winning streak on the Celtics home floor without the just injured Andrew Bynum. Not only were the Lakers playing without Bynum, they had a tough game against Toronto the other night and this was a second game of a back to back.

Fast forward to today; Lakers versus Cavaliers, Kobe versus Lebron. Earlier this week, Kobe dropped 61 points on the Knicks on their home floor. Lebron was one rebound shy of an official triple-double while scoring 52. This was an awesome Sunday showdown. Another streak on the line, Cavaliers have been unbeaten on their home floor 23-0. Outcome? It was a close game, but again Lakers pulled out in the end led by a terrific season high performance by Lamar Odom.

That’s right, so many great streaks by great rival teams ended by none other than these scrappy Lakers. As Kobe put it, he wasn’t going to let them get punked anymore. Lakers pretty much have bragging rights til the end of the season sweeping the Eastern’s two top teams in their match ups. Whats next? I just want Andrew Bynum to heal up and get ready for the playoffs. For now, the Lakers can be referred to as the “Streak Snappers”.
